Original members Jim Noble (guitar/vocals) Sy Morton (bass/vocals) continue with their vision of a band that defies genre and relies on good song writing, good vocals and good musicianship to carry them through. The original three-piece honed their sound with hours of practise, adding the unique (at the time) element of live percussion to their line up in the shape of Colin Lovatt. In 2003 drummer Chris Jones left the band. His replacement came in the form of Mik Gaffney. The band knew they had the right man when, at the audition, they wrote their first song together. (Fan favourite ‘Broken’).
The new four-piece continued to develop their sound until Colin decided to quit the band to continue his life Down Under. Tortilla Army reverted to a trio format, something all three members were comfortable with, and it wasn’t until during a string of dates with U.S. act Moth (where they acquired the use of Moth’s touring guitarist for an evening) did the band feel that a little extra depth was needed. A second guitarist was added in shape of Joe Websper, whose effortless musicality added that extra dimension the band were looking for. Joe’s ‘baptism of fire’ was, merely a couple of weeks after joining, a UK tour opening for Swedish rock act Freak Kitchen.
The band released their fourth studio album, ‘One For The Living’ April 2010, which has been enthusiastically received by fans and critics, and led to the inclusion of their track ‘Water’, being featured on the cover-mount CD for Classic Rock magazine.
The band are currently hard at work writing songs for the follow up album but plan to release a digital only single later this year.
